The Persistence of Memory Book 3: The Beginning of Always by Karen JanowskyIn Persistence of Memory Book 3: The Beginning of Always, Karen Janowsky delivers an unforgettable conclusion to what has been a tumultuous and entertaining series.

Daniel and Nina, fresh off their recent victory over the Concordance Group, are facing a lot of difficult new truths. Nina’s powers have been fully revealed, Daniel is wrestling with feelings of betrayal, and as their professional futures at WISE come into question, neither realize that their greatest challenge still lies ahead.

While the timelines of these two protagonists have been dancing around one another for two books, their pasts are set on a collision course, and their survival is far from promised. From furious supernatural forces and Nazis to time-traveling spirits and occasionally inappropriate erotic interludes, this book delivers on a wide range of fronts.

As with the other books in this series, the wild pace of the writing grabs your attention and refuses to let go, but the plot is occasionally difficult to follow, and some scenes have the unmistakable sense of being rushed through. The exposition built up in the first two installments do help to frame this world better, and it’s easier to become immersed in this installment. The emotional probe into Daniel and Nina goes even further, revealing a deeply sensitive pen for human emotion, even in such a supernatural setting.

Janowsky has shown herself once again to be an ambitious voice, touching on a huge range of subject matter in the The Persistence of Memory series, and ensuring that readers are fully invested in the fate of this imagined world to the very last page.
