Killer Competition by Tom KranzIn Killer Competition, a new novel by Tom Kranz, the struggle for legitimacy and redemption plays out in dramatic, violent fashion.

Bud Remmick has a short temper and a recent stint in jail under his belt, but after proclaiming himself a changed man, he slides into a position at a Philadelphia news outlet. It doesn’t take him long to realize that his star photographer is also a criminal, committing the very offenses that he then delivers a scoop on. Bud is also battling his demons and fighting for his family, and must find a path through new adversity without resorting to his old, dangerous ways.

The dialogue in this fast-paced thriller crackles with authenticity, and Kranz captures the manic energy of a newsroom just as easily as he unravels the desperate mind of a would-be killer. With excellent character development from start to finish, this novel boasts a twisting plot that moves slowly, but every scene fits like a perfect puzzle piece. Larger questions of redemption, forgiveness and the potential for change fuse with a riveting story that will keep you guessing until the explosive conclusion.

The main criticism of the novel is the cover could use a redesign, but on storytelling alone, Killer Competition is a gripping, unpredictable thriller.
