Tell us about your book.
Hope is a powerful memoir that captures the true depth of what it takes to awaken. With emotional journal entries full of painful realizations, I take you on a compelling journey of what it means to truly learn how to love yourself.
Why did you want to write a book?
I never intended to tell this story, but there was no denying that it needed to be told. When the concept came to me, I knew I had to write it.
Why did you choose to self-publish?
It was imperative to me that no one else had the rights to my personal story.
What tools or companies did you use, and what experience did you have?
I utilized TellWell, a company that assists self-publishers. It was an incredibly seamless experience. I specifically chose this pathway as I wasn’t familiar with publishing and production.
Would you self-publish again?
Absolutely!
What tips can you give other authors looking to self-publish?
Getting unbiased feedback is essential, and a professional edit is definitely worth it.
How do you deal with writer’s block?
By learning to trust myself and my story. There were times when I needed to take a step back and allow more understanding and integration into both my life and my writing process. During these times I continued to remind myself that, just like an oak tree, the foundations and roots take time in order to support the full weight of the tree (or, in my case, the story). Nothing that is meant for me will pass me by.
What are your plans now your book is published?
To share my story with the world.
What did you learn on your journey as an author?
I learned that I’m capable of anything. Re-living my story, recalling all I’d survived and overcome was a huge reminder of my power.
What’s next for you as an author?
I have many more books I wish to write. Children’s picture books, fiction stories, and even more memoirs later down the road. I just have to remember to not rush the process!
