Through the Test of Time II by D. Angel

An unfiltered look into the author’s long road to recovery and stability following his prison sentence, Through the Test of Time II: As Time Went On… by D. Angel is a revelatory confession and a visceral memoir.

As Angel tries to piece together the shattered parts of his personal relationships, parental arrangements, and financial foundations, the hits keep on coming, offering a rare and intimate glimpse into the slippery slopes of post-incarceration life. Though many of his problems seem driven by struggles with self-control, this narrative also examines common triggers of PTSD, steps of recovery after a variety of trauma, substance abuse, addiction, and the long-lasting impacts of incarceration.

The raw storytelling and moments of abuse and violence can occasionally make it hard to empathize with the narrator, but the accumulated weight of his own trauma, and his obvious willingness to reflect and reform, will keep readers in his emotional corner. Despite the prose being somewhat unpolished, the writer’s voice rings with authenticity, as do the intense anecdotes and snapshots of his tumultuous life. A strong editorial hand to guide the story structure and shorten some of the more tangential moments is recommended, but overall Angel offers a gritty and powerful narrative of his life.

Appealing to any who have been touched by grief, trauma, poverty, betrayal or imprisonment, Through the Test of Time II is a cautionary tale and a fearless autobiography that resonates with admirable honesty.
