Propelled by Blake Miller’s rich imagination and command of the genre, Delos: The Moon’s Eye is a memorable work of fantasy that moves across different planets and dimensions. With a unique take on magical rules, Miller’s story also touches on deep topics such as love, friendship, trust, and care for the environment within a sprawling and inventive tale.
Cynthia and Kaden are twins with incredible powers, hiding on Earth while the powerful Iblis Arrayal searches for them across the galaxies. With the arrival of Sorra, Arrayal’s nephew, and her scheming mother Mirra, the twins find their enemy to be much closer and more knowledgeable than they thought. Under the guidance of a powerful wizard, Sorra, Cynthia, Kaden and their friend Alec become unexpected companions on a life-or-death quest, which will affect the fate of more than one world.
Although such a complex world-building effort requires a fair amount of explanation, this second entry in the Delos series feels fresh, original, and agile, as Miller doesn’t overload his story with excessive exposition, instead weaving together his characters and settings into the overall plot. While the cover doesn’t quite express the level of attention and detail given to the prose, this is not a book or series that should be overlooked, as the novel is both page-turning and emotional, where political intrigue and magic intersect with the delicate balance of nature.
A story that manages to be both recognizable and completely fantastical, The Moon’s Eye unveils a complex universe that is unique in sci-fi/fantasy, while delving into themes that are relatably close to home.
