Requiem for a Queen by Kaylin McFarren A superb installment of this sinister series of erotic thrillers, Requiem for a Queen by Kaylin McFarren launches readers into another hellish spiral of drama and action.

After cutting ties with the deceitful Nexus warriors from Book 2, Samara Daemonium is not only pregnant with the child of Lucifer, but is also being desperately sought by every force in Hell. The fallen queen Lucinda – Lucifer’s daughter – will stop at nothing to ensure that she is the heir to the demonic throne, even if that means taking over the underworld herself.

In this maelstrom of chaos and cosmic family drama, Samara continues unlocking more of her own incredible abilities, amplified by her fierce maternal love for her rapidly growing son. Unfortunately, they may not be a match for Lucinda’s stolen powers, black magic, and obsession with domination. Handsome demon hunters, helpful sprites, nightmarish legions, and more clash in this epic penultimate chapter of McFarren’s Gehenna series.

While the story is riveting and darkly creative, there are sporadic moments of informal language, idiomatic speech, and unformed narration that stick out in an otherwise smooth read. The dialogue has similar moments of awkwardness that could be remedied with an aesthetic edit, rather than a technical one. Additionally, some references to and representations of sexual violence may trigger or turn off some readers, but the erotic scenes are otherwise strongly penned and unique, with the author incorporating supernatural bodies and abilities in creative ways.

Overall, while there are some minor issues in execution, Requiem for a Queen is an inventive, multilayered, and wholly satisfying read for fans of dark fantasy romance.
