Author Chris Kanthan peels back the curtain on the next global leader in his deeply researched new book, China, China, Chyyna!: Greatest Disruption to American Century, an eye-opening exposé about the rise of an old empire.
After more than a century in power, the United States has fallen from grace on the world stage, the natural conclusion of political bickering and deep social divides. China has simultaneously been on a meteoric rise to power for the past three decades, leading the world in green energy development, production and manufacturing, trade, patent technologies, GDP growth, and much more.
Despite China’s negative depiction in western media, this book strips away the mystery and misrepresentation of China to explain how a communist nation has achieved such incredibly rapid success, and what that means for the rest of the world – particularly the United States. Between debunking myths about the country, dissecting its economic and social policies, summarizing complex history, and recounting personal experiences to give the book an engaging edge, this is an engrossing read, even for readers who might not be immediately interested in the subject.
Kanthan’s eagerness to demolish the stereotypes and false media representations of China is admirable, and the behind-the-scenes detail is fascinating, but the execution of the book does stumble. Aside from a regular flow of errors – poor grammar, misspellings, and missing words – there are brief slips of informality that undercut the book’s authority.
Aside from these critiques, which are easily remedied, this is an uncompromising, well-founded, and undeniably important book, given the worldwide ramifications the book lays out for the future.
