Broken hearts and beautiful backdrops collide in Whispering a Quiet Hope, a powerful new work of romance from author Lisa Brennan.
When Brooke’s life and love come apart at the seams, she flees to warmer climes, far from Dylan’s betrayal and their collapsing marriage. As one might expect, she quickly encounters a new suitor eager to sweep her off her feet, but the pull of the past, and the complex emotions of grief, make this easier said than done.
At first glance, this book feels like many other romance plots, complete with an Australian hunk arriving at the perfect time, but Brennan patiently builds up the chemistry between the two. Brooke’s internal struggle is authentic, charming, and relatable, as any reader has had their own lowest moments, and Brennan has painted an empathetic portrait of her lead character.
The execution of the story does have a few issues, primarily in the narration that takes out some of the mystery out of the narrative. Additionally, speeding up some of the dialogue interactions could keep the pace consistent and engaging. As a whole, the plot is emotional and evocative, Brooke is a complex and engaging protagonist, and the accessibility of the writing makes this novel a quick, guilty pleasure of a read.
