In Inevitable Dreaming, the new novel from Dave Dröge, readers are pulled into a heartfelt story of loss and redemption.
When Waldemar van Splunteren’s life collapses in dramatic and tragic fashion, he finds himself with few friends and no idea how to move forward. As a forensic psychologist, Waldemar understands how complex and dangerous the human mind can be, but when a friend of his late wife suggests a cutting-edge form of digital therapy, he agrees, desperate for closure and peace. Quite the opposite happens, however, and he gradually begins to uncover the truth behind his painful past, launching Waldemar and Miriam into an exotic and potentially deadly journey to Indonesia.
There is ample action in the novel to keep readers engaged, but the intensive exposure to Waldemar’s inner monologue makes the narration particularly powerful. This is a man who has lost everything, and is grasping at any straws to maintain his sanity, or seek solace in revenge. Tinged with darkness from the beginning, this novel explores challenging concepts of grief, acceptance, human connection and the quest for peace, all within a fast-paced, tightly packed read.
A relatively short novel, Inevitable Dreaming is laden with striking lines of dialogue and terse, unique descriptions, as well as Dröge’s characteristic sensitivity to the beautiful, raw range of human emotion in the midst of trauma.
