Barnes & Noble Press In a bid to compete with KDP Print, Barnes & Noble Press (renamed early 2018 from Nook Press), has announced some new options:

  • Print Pre-Order: Now available for all print books on sale. Set your publication date up to 180 days in the future without needing final cover or interior files. Don’t forget, eBook pre-order is already available up to 12 months in advance of publication!
  • Get one free correction for print book files: If your print book files aren’t exactly to our platform’s requirements, we’re giving you one free correction per cover and interior file, on us. Upload your files and then click ‘Yes, Correct the Error’ button.
  • Order advance copies of print books ahead of publication: Don’t forget, you can order personal copies of your print books, even if the book is available for pre-order, before your on-sale date.
  • Customize your print book spine: You now have the ability to customize your print book’s spine if you’re uploading separate front and back cover files. Match the color of your book’s spine to any color in your existing cover files, and choose your font size and style.

The main thing they have in their corner is placement in Barnes & Noble stores. They do have a couple of offerings on this front, but only for top sellers:

Sell Your Book In-Store
If you sell over 1,000 copies of a B&N Press eBook in 12 months, you’re eligible to pitch your book to B&N store buyers. If your book is selected, we’ll get it in B&N stores across the country.

Host a Store Event
Meet your fans at a book signing or reading at our stores! Authors who sell over 500 copies of a B&N Press eBook in 12 months are eligible to host a store event.

Other marketing avenues are similar to Amazon’s: newsletter promotions, but without Amazon’s reach.
