Australian author Danica Ked chronicles the demonic visitations that filled her life as she battled with schizophrenia in The Traps That Satan Laid: Overcoming the Devil and Other Demons in the Power of Jesus Christ.
At age seven the author began to have seizures and blackouts. By her teens she began exploring a “daydream world.” Satanic beings threatened to kill her, tempted her with lust, or overwhelmed her with secular influences. Yet she often heard hymns or the voice of God, who several times saved her, she believes, from sin or death. She was once consigned to a locked mental ward, given a diagnosis of psychosis and schizophrenia. Now, after much struggle, she professes to have overcome the evil spirits, and feels strong in the Lord.
The author writes dramatically, revealing the upheavals of her consciousness and making the reader sense how her experiences could happen to anyone. She devotes the last third of her book to perspectives on Satan/Lucifer, the Antichrist, and the Book of Revelations; she has clearly studied scripture, citing relevant passages to support her distressing tale. She often expresses regret at some of her past thoughts and actions, avows love for her daughters and husband, and leaves the reader hoping she will be able to sustain her hard-won, newly chosen path of Godly devotion.
A harrowing, heartfelt memoir, The Traps That Satan Laid illustrates how easily one can fall into darkness and overcome it, which should be of keen interest to devout Christians.
