Arklight: Operation Nightfall

Being able to step back in time to change the future is a common theme in science fiction, but author JM Myrick puts a new spin on this old idea with Arklight: Operation Nightfall. This ambitious novel, the first in a trilogy, tells the story of an elite team of soldiers who are mysteriously transported back to 1943 into the dark heart of Germany under Hitler’s control.

Supernatural forces bring them back to this crucial moment in time, and what they discover is something that the world has never known: Germany had a weapon that could have won the war – and possibly destroyed the world.

The Arklight team is a motley crew of soldiers and thinkers, providing a welcome blend of high-octane action and philosophical insight that is a pleasure to read. Instead of focusing on the paradoxes of time travel, Myrick pivots from science to spirituality, which is a rather unique approach in the genre, and makes the plot more intriguing and meaningful.

Despite the author being a first-time novelist, this story has the maturity of a much more experienced writer, as the writing is crisp and exciting at every turn. Themes of brotherhood, sacrifice and morality are expertly threaded through this novel, and Myrick uses those unifying ideas to create a memorable and impressive work of science fiction.
