The Button Chronicles by Juniko Moody is the highly inventive dystopian novel about the very nature of human evolution. Replete with its own inventive language, The Button Chronicles is about a dark 22nd century where mysterious buttons appear from out of nowhere. When pressed, a person disappears, and soon there are buttons for every person on earth, with millions of people disappearing. No one knows where they came from or how the devices work. A suspenseful and thought-provoking read, The Button Chronicles asks serious questions about the nature of reality and how mankind can survive on its current dystopian path.
Echoing Alice in Wonderland, the novel follows a reporter named Alice who goes down a different sort of a rabbit hole, a wormhole, to discover the origin of the buttons. Along the way, she discovers mankind’s destiny. There are similarities to Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar,” as Alice travels deeper into the void, unveiling a future that is at once paranormal and scientific. It’s a truly mind-opening novel that is startlingly inventive, as well as startlingly plausible, even with its far-out scenario. The first in a series, The Button Chronicles is a mind-bending sci-fi tale that will open your eyes about human possibility.
